Permissions

  • tabs: This permission allows the extension to access your browser tabs. It is used to manage and interact with the tabs to provide you with enhanced functionality, such as modifying content on specific websites or integrating with other services.

  • storage: This permission allows the extension to store settings and preferences locally on your device. It ensures that your configuration and data persist between sessions.

  • host_permissions: This permission restricts the extension's access to specific websites. In this case, the extension can only interact with pages on https://www.youtube.com/*. This is necessary for the extension to provide its functionality specifically on YouTube, such as adding features or improving usability on that site.

We do not collect any personal data without your consent, and the extension operates within the boundaries of these permissions to ensure a secure and efficient user experience. How We Use Your Information

  • Email: We collect your email address to gather feedback and enhance our product by adding new features and updates based on your suggestions.
  • Notes Generation: The video transcripts are used to generate video notes. This data is passed on to the third-party OpenAI API for generating video notes.

Data Security
We prioritize your data security and ensure that no personal data is collected, stored, or transmitted by our extension. Rest assured, we do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Third-Party API
Our extension uses the third-party OpenAI and Gemini APIs to generate YouTube video notes. Please check the privacy policy details of both APIs below:

  1. OpenAI API
  • As of March 1, 2023, OpenAI retains API data (prompts and responses) for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse and misuse.
  • OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train or improve its models.

  1. Gemini API (by Google)
  • Google may retain inputs and outputs for up to 55 days for abuse monitoring and compliance purposes.
  • Input data sent to the Gemini API is not used for training models unless explicitly opted in.

How We Use Video Transcripts

  • YT Notes accesses publicly available transcripts of YouTube videos to help users take study notes.
  • These transcripts are temporarily processed locally or sent to a third-party AI API to generate summaries.
  • We do not download, store, or share these transcripts permanently.
  • Users do not have the option to download the full transcript, but may choose to download AI-generated notes, which are original summaries based on the transcript.

Fair Use Notice: Our use of video transcripts falls under the doctrine of fair use. We use them solely for educational and personal productivity purposes, and the summaries we generate are transformative and intended to support learning not to replace or redistribute original content.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page, and the updated policy will be effective immediately upon posting.
